A record amount of U.S. currency is circulating. Are you going to be using any on Black Friday bargains?
The role cash plays in the U.S. economy is shrinking. Where is all the cash currency? There is almost $1.6 trillion of U.S. currency in circulation of which $12.1 billion is dollar bills and $12.5 billion is $100 bills.*
The $100 bill is the largest bill, by value, in circulation in the United States. About $1.07 trillion worth of $100 bills are held abroad with only $80 billion worth held stateside.
Cash is still king in the payment of food and personal care. Happy Holidays!
